The Medical Exercise Training Institute is happy to announce the presentation of our Advanced Medical Exercise Specialist 4-Day Live Workshop July 29 - August 1, 2021 at Medical Fitness Pros of Katy, TX. That's right.....we can see the light at the end of the Covid tunnel and we are taking the next step forward.
The need for Medical Exercise Training will grow over the next 20 years but Covid was a booster shot! Post physical therapy clients are anxious about getting their function back. PT clinics are overwhelmed. Our seniors need to exercise to maintain their independence. The AMES is coming to Houston early. We originally scheduled this course for November but the revision of the CDC guidelines has given us the opportunity to start "Bridging the Gap" July 29 thru August 1.

Medical Exercise Specialists are we truly MedXPROs or simply certification hoarders? Now we see a proliferation of medical exercise/medical fitness certifications and many are simply read a book and take an exam. Taught many times by instructors with partial backgrounds in healthcare and no direct management experience with some of the conditions reviewed in their courses. Are we playing the finite game or the infinite game?
When we started the Medical Exercise Specialist program in 1994, we weren't looking to offer another fitness certification but ultimately a new profession - "Medical Exercise Training". We recognized the future of medical exercise training and the need for Medical Exercise Specialists. With the changes to insurance reimbursement and the aging of North America, it was pretty easy to see. We were correct.
You don't build a profession on certifications; you build it by developing a specific body of knowledge and skill that is unique to that profession and...
This program leads to a recognition upon completion as a "Advanced Medical Exercise Specialist". We pattern the AMES residency after medical education. When a residency is completed, the physician simply is recognized as a specialist. The same holds for the AMES. Upon completion you are recognized as a Advanced MES or a specialist in medical exercise training.
Yes, if you are currently a student in the MES or PRCS you may enroll in the AMES residency. The residency will significantly improve your understanding of the application of MET techniques, assessments, etc. The ability to see an interact with a wide range of MET clients can only enhance your learning, understanding and application of MET.
You may enroll in the AMES but you will not receive the AMES recognition until after your have passed the MES final exam.
Recognition as a Advanced Medical Exercise Specialist does not allow you to provide any aspects of medical diagnostics, medical treatment or therapy services. The AMES is a fitness-based program and should not be confused with education for physical or occupational therapists.
The AMES Residency is a 1-year deep immersion in medical exercise training. The residency begins on March 28, 2021 and concludes March 2022. You will learn a tremendous amount of MET applications, techniques, assessments, etc in AMES residency year.
The AMES client management sessions are the backbone of the residency and the largest learning component of the program. There are 26 client management sessions. The client management sessions are scheduled for Sunday mornings at 9am ET/8am CT/7am MT/6am PT. Each session is recorded and available within 2 hours within the AMES Professional Resources area.
